I didn't realize this channel was set up. 13:33 chandler: I assume lisppaste would be a good idea? 13:34 jonrafkind: you control lisppaste? 13:34 chandler: Yup. 13:34 jonrafkind: ok i dont mind if he joins 13:35 (join) lisppaste 14:12 (join) r2q2 14:12 r2q2: is the racket binary still being worked on it hasn't reached the racket lang site. 14:12 r2q2: ? 14:51 mattmight: re: http://www.racket-lang.org/ very nice 15:20 (join) j3parker 15:20 j3parker: your new logo is a neat idea but the implementation is lacking... that damn shading looks crappy in print :( 15:24 j3parker: a very quick hack-job: http://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~j3parker/plt/ without the shading it would be less visually confusing and print better (and look fine in black & white) 15:25 j3parker: (not intended to be a definitive proposal. note the poor spacing of the parens and artifacts in the logo etc. just a rough idea) 15:30 j3parker: s/proposal/product 17:20 r2q2: I would work on something with a racket 17:20 r2q2: like a lambda racket possibly 17:21 chandler: I think the head racketeers wanted to avoid something that tied "racket" down to one particular meaning. 17:22 chandler: Despite that, I think either a racket with a lambda pattern on the string, or a racket with a tennis ball with a lambda pattern on it would be cute logos (and icons). 17:25 r2q2: oh alright just a thought 17:30 r2q2: It seems like the version that has #lang racket isn't up yet 17:33 chandler: Yes, it rather looks like they're in the middle of the switch-over. 17:34 jonrafkind: j3parker, just curios, how did you know to come here? 17:34 j3parker: jonrafkind: the new website has a mention somewhere of this channel. 17:35 jonrafkind: oh on the community page, ok excellent!! 17:35 jonrafkind: we should put up the webchat thing too 17:36 j3parker: hm, you are guys are going srs bsns on this aren't you? 17:37 jonrafkind: its for realz 17:37 j3parker: p.s., does PLT have a procedure setup for mirrors? the uwaterloo computer science club runs a very large mirror and we have thrown around the idea of contacting you guys many times (our first year curriculum is in plt scheme) 17:37 jonrafkind: eli would know 17:38 j3parker: alright (not my dept. either but i figured i'd ask anyway :P) 18:09 (join) eliyahu 18:09 eliyahu: jonrafkind: cute 18:09 jonrafkind: yes 18:11 eli: eliyahu: mu 18:11 eli: eliyahu: mu 18:11 eli: eliyahu: mu 18:12 eli: j3parker: Email me. (BTW, we already have 3 mirrors in the us.) 18:12 j3parker: eli: address? 18:13 j3parker: (we are also in NA (specifically canada)) 18:13 (quit) eliyahu: Client Quit 18:13 eli: j3parker: I know. 18:13 eli: And eli@barzilay.org 18:14 eli: Today would be a good day to email me since I'm working on just that code, btw. 18:16 eli: jonrafkind: ! 18:16 jonrafkind: so emailing you is like todo list? 18:17 drhodes: hmmm, I thought racket was a somewhat nefarious scheme 18:17 eli: Yes. I was about to ask that you'll mail me that link. 18:17 j3parker: eli: emailed the relevant people to email you. thanks! 18:17 jonrafkind: oh ok, can send you an email with all my current requests 18:17 eli: j3parker: Who? 18:17 j3parker: eli: our sysadmins 18:18 eli: jonrafkind: Also, why does it have to be elsewhere? Isn't it possible to just grab the whole thing? 18:18 jonrafkind: uhm... what? 18:18 jonrafkind: are we talking about freenode webchat or the irc logs? 18:18 eli: j3parker: It's better to have a contact who's actually interested in maintaining a mirror, not to leave it to indifferent sysadmins. 18:19 eli: The web thing 18:19 jonrafkind: "grab the whole thing" -- what does that mean 18:19 eli: Put the JS code, and the rest of the junk. 18:19 jonrafkind: thats what the iframe is for 18:19 eli: iframes are super lame. 18:20 jonrafkind: ok well.. i guess you can pull the JS and run your own 18:20 eli: Might as well leave it like that, given that it's at freenode anyway. 18:20 j3parker: eli: we are a student club and the sysadmins are students. they enjoy maintaining the mirror (we have to continually fight the school to get bandwidth (we have a lot)) i'm simply not at school this term so there are better people to handle it. 18:21 eli: j3parker: Oh ok. (Just that I have experience with the route of assigning a generic sysadmin, and from there the road to a dumped mirror is short.) 18:39 (join) Eliyahu 18:40 Eliyahu: jonrafkind: it even works on a stupid iPad. 18:40 jonrafkind: you have an ipad?? 18:40 Eliyahu: Can you mention this Nick? 18:41 jonrafkind: Eliyahu, has an ipad 18:44 eli: jonrafkind: Yes I have one, and don't even think about dragging it into talking about that cursed thing. 18:45 jonrafkind: f 18:51 (join) JoelMcCracken 20:17 (quit) Eliyahu: Ping timeout: 252 seconds 20:19 (join) carleastlund 21:17 JoelMcCracken: is there any way to get involved with racket as an outsider? 21:22 carleastlund: Certainly. The easiest way is to subscribe to the developer's mailing list; we discuss development and our release process there, and there are a number of "outsiders" who contribute there -- both in discussion and in code. Plus, of course, anyone is welcome to upload Planet packages, so that's another way to contribute code that anyone can use. 21:22 JoelMcCracken: ah, true, I didn't really consider planet 21:22 carleastlund: The mailing list links are all here: http://www.plt-scheme.org/community.html 21:24 JoelMcCracken: Thanks! i've been on plt-scheme for quite a while, but didn't think to join dev 21:25 carleastlund: With the 5.0 release that is coming soon, "plt-scheme" will become "users@racket-lang.org" and "plt-dev" will become "dev@racket-lang.org", highlighting the intent of each mailing list. We don't think the average users want to see our release process, and so forth, but it's all available to anyone who's interested. :) 21:39 (quit) carleastlund: Quit: carleastlund 22:21 r2q2: Is it mostly a branding thing 22:21 r2q2: scheme -> racket 22:21 r2q2: Or are we going to see a significant change 22:40 (join) carleastlund 23:37 (quit) r2q2: Remote host closed the connection 23:39 (quit) JoelMcCracken: Quit: Leaving
